The MIT Node hosted a virtual weekend bootcamp providing entrepreneurship training and mentorship for eight secondary school teams, consisting of 32 students who were selected as finalists by JUMPSTARTER IdeaPOP! — Hong Kong’s startup competition for students powered by Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. This year, the competition encouraged young innovators to propose impactful solutions to tackle challenges to improve education, social innovation and smart living.
Across 2 days, these students worked virtually on Zoom with MIT Node staff and experienced team coaches to refine their project’s business model, digital prototyping and pitching skills.
Solutions ranged from an AI powered medicine recognition machine; an app to maximise efficiency for minibuses by allowing passengers to reserve any unoccupied seats and estimate the arrival time of these minibuses; turn idle land in urban areas into farmland for rental on a demand basis; a smart cane that assists individuals with mobility issues and gives out warnings to help avoid accidents; a smart shower robot for elderly to reduce the possibility of accidents and reduce the workload of healthcare workers or family members; installation of solar blinds and tiles in apartments, hotels, schools and offices to generate sustainable electricity and promote a sustainable lifestyle, and more.
