The construction industry has been an instrumental driver of economic growth and enabler of social development, with the annual construction expenditure in Hong Kong expected to increase to over HK$300 billion in the coming years.

Powered by the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node, this year’s hackathon aims at energising the construction community and accelerating its innovation. It is a platform for those interested in reimagining a sustainable construction culture; accelerating the adoption of sustainable processes and practices, providing the chance to brainstorm and build innovative solutions with like-minded people.

Supported by our Co-organiser and Innovation Partner, The Construction Industry Council, SustainabilityHACK 2024 invites the community to explore ways to build processes and practices for “Sustainable Construction”, through innovative new ideas and adoption of new technologies.

The four pillars to sustainable construction are:

(1)
Promoting design for sustainable construction

(2) Improving safety and wellbeing practices in the workplace

(3) Reinforcing the circular economy to reduce and recycle waste, and reuse building materials

(4) Introduce new energy solutions in the construction life cycle
