MIT Node x HKSF workshops for upper primary and secondary students

MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node participated as a supporting organisation for the inaugural Hong Kong Science Fair. Themed ‘Think Big Be Innovation’, the inaugural Hong Kong Science Fair encourages Primary 4 to Form 6 students to come up with innovative science-based and tech-enabled solutions to tackle important issues such as climate change, health and the environment.

MIT Node helped plan the competition journey, including online workshops for students and teachers on design thinking, 3D modelling, and pitching. In addition to the online workshops, in-person prototyping sessions were held at the Node for students representing the top 120 projects selected by a review committee. The goal was to enhance their tangible creations with the support of mentors through the Node’s network. Through this prototyping session, students received professional advice from mentors and had a clearer idea of how to refine their prototypes and better present their ideas.

The project ideas were impressive, spanning innovation for the ageing population, to sustainability education for children, improving proper mask-wearing habits during the pandemic, and wayfinding using mixed reality, to name a few.

After months of project development, students will showcase the fruit of their hard work at the Hong Kong Science Fair to be held at HKCEC.
